Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kumar is the Medical Superintendent of Hakeem Abdul Hameed Centenary (HAHC) Hospital and Professor of Orthopaedics at Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (HIMSR), New Delhi. With more than two decades of distinguished service in Orthopaedics, healthcare administration, and teaching, he is recognized as a dynamic leader who blends clinical excellence with institutional governance.
Dr. Kumar completed his MBBS and MS in Orthopaedics at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, one of India’s premier medical schools. His quest for advanced training took him to the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, as a Clinical Research Fellow under the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Fellowship, where he gained extensive experience in arthroplasty, arthroscopy, and trauma surgery. He also completed a PG Diploma in Health and Social Care (Teesside University, UK), enhancing his expertise in hospital administration and patient-centered care.
An expert in hip and knee joint replacements (primary and revision), sports injury surgeries, arthroscopic procedures, and complex trauma management, Dr. Kumar has independently performed more than 1000 hip and knee arthroplasties.
Academically, Dr. Kumar has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed research papers in leading journals and contributed book chapters. He has presented at prestigious conferences including IOACON, APOA, SICOT, British Hip Society, and APMSTS, and received awards such as the IOA Senior Research Fellowship (2020) and RULA Best Researcher Award (2019). He also actively mentors postgraduate and doctoral students, serving as thesis guide, examiner, and faculty resource in instructional courses.
Dr. Kumar has a rich record of academic leadership and administrative service. At HIMSR, he has been Head of Orthopaedics, Head of Accident & Emergency, Head of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and NMC In-charge.
Nationally, he has served as DNB Examiner, President, Indian Association of Trauma Surgeons, and Secretary, Delhi Orthopaedics Association & Indian Orthopaedics Association. He has previously served as Joint Secretary of the Indian Orthopaedics Association (2018–2020) and as Treasurer (2021–2025), reflecting his professional credibility and leadership in the Orthopaedics community.
With over 22 years of teaching experience, he has trained generations of MBBS, MS, and DNB students across premier institutions such as UCMS-GTB Hospital, BHU, and HIMSR. His contributions also extend to sports, cultural, and institutional events, where he has been an active mentor and role model.
