Dear faculty, staff and students,

I am truly inspired by my wonderful faculty, staff and students as we work together to retort COVID-19 pandemic. This has altered our way of life but it has not changed the warrior spirit of our people.

We are in the midst of a challenging and unprecedented times. The novel corona virus, COVID-19 has plunged us all into unchartered territory with feelings of uncertainty and concern for ourselves and our loved ones. With the spirit to serve our community and honouring the directives of Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, HIMSR and HAHC Hospital has dedicated 200 beds for COVID-19 patient care.
To further strengthen our efforts to fight this pandemic, we have established a “State of the Art” BSL2 COVID-19 Testing Lab facility on a war footing.

This testing facility was conceived well in advance before any official orders from the Government/MCI by virtue of the proactive approach of our Hon’ble Director General, Dr. G.N. Qazi and generous support from our HIMSR management.

At Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, we are deeply concerned about the health and safety of our students and our colleagues. Thus, to address their safety concerns, free testing for detection of SARS CoV-2 Antibody was done as a pilot study among 50 health care personnel to check their exposure and immunity status.Recently, we have also started providing free COVID-19 antigen testing to all faculty, staff and patients at our hospital.

While, I suspect this period of uncertainty will remain for sometime, I am optimistic that our resilience will definitely triumph. Our faculty are to be saluted for their tireless work to provide optimum care to the patients. Their committed service to the patients despite concerns for their own safety and that of their families is emblematic of who we are and what we do at HIMSR & HAHCH.

We all are rightly so proud of our students, whose lives have perhaps been most affected in this current scenario. They not only continue to seek out scope of learning to assist in providing health care services, they are also utilizing this pandemic as a frontline educational experience as valued members of the nation’s health care team. As they say-“The Quality of University is measured by the kind of students it turns out than the kind it takes in”.

Opportunities in the times of crisis are rare but when we find them, it is up to us to decide how we as a society will respond. I know as those in our profession have always known, that we “CAN” do more to ensure the dignity and worth of each of us.

I could not be more proud of all of your efforts in our community’s time of need and I want to thank all of you for adjusting to the challenges of this rapidly evolving and uncertain time and also for rising to the moment as responsible members of a community dedicated to protecting, promoting and prolonging health.

With very best wishes to all of you on staying informed and safe.
